For the Birds!

This blog post is for the birds! Okay, it’s really for you, but it’s about birds… so that counts, right? As you know, the Conservatory is home to our 3,000 friendly butterflies, and our bees have even moved in lately to make way for our Spineless Giants exhibit (coming soon!). But did you know that our rainforest environment is also home to a number of tropical bird species? The cute little chirpers include orange-cheeked waxbills, black crowned waxbills, Lady Gouldian finches and canaries. These bird species were chosen specifically because they are not a threat to the butterflies at all. The butterflies and the birds co-exist, yet do not interact with one another. Next time you visit our rainforest, be sure to keep an eye out for our feathered friends that call Butterfly Wonderland home! They make for excellent photography subjects, too!
