Last month we had a great turnout for our Monarch Tagging Workshop in Southern Arizona. According to Monarch Watch, the purposes of tagging the Monarchs includes determining pathways taken by migrating Monarchs, the influence of weather on their migration, the survival rate of the Monarchs and more. Tagging consists of gently catching these butterflies with a net, determining and recording whether they are male or female, affixing a Monarch Watch-issued tag to their wings, and gently releasing the butterflies back into nature. If you wish to attract butterflies to your own piece of nature (like your backyard!), join us for our How to Build a Fall Butterfly Garden Workshop on Oct. 13th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and pick up some butterfly-attracting plants at our Fall Plant Sale this weekend — Oct. 15th and 16th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Proceeds from the sale benefit our non-profit Butterfly Wonderland Foundation, which allocates funds to butterfly conservation, among other important causes.
