Have you visited us since the reopening of our Honeybee Extravaganza? It’s all we’re buzzing about lately! Since our honeybees are on our minds right now, we thought we would share some fun bee facts for today’s blog!
- During a single collection trip, a honeybee will visit between 50 and 100 flowers.
- A bee’s brain is about the size of a sesame seed but it has the ability to learn, remember and even develop complex calculations on travel distance as well as efficiency of it’s foraging capacity.
- A honeybee’s wings beat 200 times per second.
- A bee can fly up to six miles at a time and up to 15 miles per hour!
- Worker honeybees are all female; their life span is just six weeks.
- The queen, whose singular role is populating the hive with eggs, has a life span of up to five years.
- Male bees, or drones, do no work at all — except mate.
- Bees are fascinating workers, and are the only insect that produces food that humans consume.
Come see our little workers in action today!
